Trip to the Beach

We just took the funnest trip to the beach. Wednesday we left and headed to Newport Beach California. We played on the beach Wednesday and Thursday morning and then headed back home.
This is in Barstow at the McDonalds where you get to eat in train cars.

They also had a candy store and Grandpa got us some licorice.
At our hotel, getting ready to head out to the beach. The kids had never been to the beach that they could remember. (Oregon beach when they were too little to remember)

We could just walk across the street from our hotel right onto the beach.

The kids were actually a little scared to go because a day or two before we even decided to go to the beach I told them about the surfer girl who got her arm bitten off by a shark and showed them pictures of how she still surfs and pictures of her surf board with the huge shark bite in it.(Weird coincidence that we then decided to go to the beach) So of course they were very worried about sharks but once they got playing in the waves they decided they loved it.

The waves were SO huge - I HAD to be holding on to Jacksons hand because even the littler waves would just sweep his legs out from under him.

Eventually Anna loved getting in too. The cold water doesn't bother her.

 It was so beautiful.

So lucky to have such fun Grandparents.

We were quite intrigued with the kelp.

Isaac just ran and ran and ran. He had endless energy.
 Anna loved the mud.
We walked out to the end of the big pier.

 Too cute.

 Feet

This was a tall bench if even Grandmas legs don't touch!
Later we walked to a yummy pizza place just down the street.
 Cheese!

Jackson leaned over to rest on Grandma but every time I tried to take his picture he would put up his hand so I couldn't.
Sometimes you have to tickle him to get his picture.
At our hotel there was a cool "sundeck" on top of the building. You could see the ocean and all around. It was so beautiful.

 Isaac loved this chair.

Me and Jackson watching the big waves crash.
 My shoe!
The next morning we headed back down to the beach but this time we took our sand toys to build castles.

Jackson especially loved digging and digging and building.

It was chilly but we still wanted to get in the water.
 Such good sports.
Jackson digging and throwing dirt onto his own back.
When it was time to go we decided to stomp all the castles....almost as much fun as building them.
 Here comes the water.
They had fun hunting for shells on the beach too. I hope this is a trip we will do every year!!
